Social Services Coordinator – Salvation Army Southern California
POSITION TITLE: Social Services Coordinator
STATUS: Full Time / Regular / Non-Exempt
SALARY: $25.00 per hour
SUPERVISOR: Corps Officers
DEPARTMENT: Missoula Corps
Position OverviewThe Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs. As a Social Services Coordinator, you will administer a variety of social services programs to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of clients through direct contact and by supervising staff and volunteers.
Administrative Responsibilities (80%)- Answer and respond to all telephone calls and emails.
- Interview, screen, and schedule appointments for applicants.
- Prepare client files, maintain accurate records, and manage statistical data.
- Track funding received and disbursed, monitor financial status, and prepare monthly reports.
- Order and maintain food supplies and coordinate food distribution.
- Utilize company minivan for driving duties as necessary.
- Assist with community, seasonal programs, and office tasks requested by Corps Officers.
- Collaborate with Corps staff and external agencies.
- Develop funding sources and write effective grants for program expansion.
- Record, disburse, and report in‑kind donations properly.
- Support clients in job‑skills programs (e.g., hygiene center, food service).
- Assist families meeting POH criteria with case management and reporting.
- Perform intake and client assessments using tools such as URICA, Client Sufficiency Matrix, and Herth Hope Index.
- Attend required divisional trainings.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Conduct intake to determine need and eligibility; provide direct material or financial assistance for food, clothing, shelter, utilities, transportation, etc.
- Offer case management for long‑term needs such as housing, utility assistance, and food bank certification.
- Refer clients to services that the Salvation Army cannot provide directly.
- College degree, AA, or higher; high school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a nonprofit or social service‑related setting.
- Experience working with Missoula County or similar agencies; familiar with the Missoula Coordinated Entry System.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with vulnerable populations.
- Commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission and practices.
- Understanding of and ability to comply with Army policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to represent the Army in the community while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Valid Montana State Driver’s license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in‑house driving test.
- Complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and TSA background check.
- Basic computer knowledge:
Excel, Word, PowerPoint; ability to navigate database applications. - Detail‑oriented, self‑starter, and team player.
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist continuously or intermittently.
- Grasp, push, pull objects; reach overhead.
- Use hand-finger to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Lift 20 lbs repeatedly and occasionally an item up to 50 lbs.
- Operate a motor vehicle; travel as required.
