The City of Missouri City, known as the “Show Me City,” is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead key accounting, financial reporting, and grant management functions. This position plays an important role in ensuring the City’s financial resources are managed accurately, responsibly, and transparently.
The Accounting Manager works closely with the Deputy Finance Director, City departments, auditors, and grant administrators to support sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and effective stewardship of City resources.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, accounts receivable, cash management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and support the annual audit and year-end close.
- Review accounting transactions, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Monitor revenues, expenditures, encumbrances, and fund balances and identify significant variances or financial trends requiring management attention.
- Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, reimbursements, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements.
- Support the City's Single Audit and ensure compliance with applicable grant requirements, including 2 CFR Part 200, when applicable.
- Monitor revenues, expenditures, fund balances, and budget variances and provide meaningful financial analysis to management.
- Assist with annual operating and capital budget development and monitoring.
- Maintain strong internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting and financial processes.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
- Collaborate with City departments, auditors, grant agencies, and leadership to resolve financial and compliance issues.
- Perform other related duties as assigned;
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience.
- Experience with governmental accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, internal controls, and grant accounting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with Tyler Munis is a plus.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, accountability, and commitment to public service.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and/or Certified Government Financial Officer (CGFO) are strongly preferred.

Subject to emergency operations recall and other assignments necessary to maintain continuity of City services.
