These are full‑time (Professionals) positions in the City’s Development Services Department, Permits and Inspections Division. Individuals in this position will ensure compliance with residential and commercial codes and city ordinances. Reporting relationship:
Building Official.
- Perform inspection of residential and commercial buildings; mechanical, electrical, plumbing; private infrastructure; change of occupant; and swimming pool inspections for compliance with City codes and ordinances.
- Coordinate inspections with other City departments and utility operators for commercial building projects.
- Conduct research; review construction plans and applications; review professional surveys.
- Interact with architects, engineers, developers, general contractors and property owners concerning plans, specifications and building code requirements; advise on relevant matters such as construction, repair methods and materials.
- Meet with contractors and homeowners concerning plans, specifications and building code requirements.
- Investigate citizen complaints concerning violation of city building codes and ordinances; make independent judgments and sound recommendations based on findings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Subject to 24‑hour recall.
- Building Inspector II:
High School Diploma or GED, a minimum of four (4) years relevant professional experience. One International Code Certification or the ability to obtain one ICC Certification within three (3) years required. - Building Inspector III:
High School Diploma or GED; minimum of eight (8) years relevant professional experience. One International Code Certification or the ability to obtain one ICC Certification within one (1) year;
State of Texas licensed plumbing inspector license or the ability to obtain within 24 months of employment required.
The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
