Base Pay Ranges
Classification A: $4,695.00 – $6,173.00 per month
Classification B: $5,805.00 – $7,632.00 per month
Associate Tax Auditor: $6,646.00 – $8,740.00 per month

Job Description and Duties:
This is a re‑advertisement. Applicants must take the online Tax Auditor EDD exam for eligibility. The Tax Branch has an immediate opening for two auditors in the Redding Audit Crew. Duties include conducting in‑person payroll tax audits, reconciling employer payroll records, determining worker classification, preparing audit reports, and explaining findings to business owners. Auditors will also attend branch and division‑sponsored trainings.
- Receive on‑the‑job and formal training.
- Conduct in‑person payroll tax audits and investigations for California‑based companies.
- Apply state tax statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Interact with business owners and represent their interests.
- Interview workers to determine proper classification.
- Gather relevant information to confirm worker wages and classifications.
- Examine financial records to reconcile reported taxes with employer payroll reports.
- Prepare detailed audit reports supporting findings and recommendations.
- Explain audit findings to business owners and/or their representatives.
- Attend meetings and participate in branch and division‑sponsored trainings.
- The EDD is a qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
