Job DefinitionPerform accounting clerical work within a comprehensive established framework of procedures, under general supervision.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining accounting records for a small general accounting system or accounts payable/receivable/trust accounting system (typically 2,000–5,000 active accounts).
- Sorting, coding, verifying, and filing financial documents; posting by hand, computer, or machine; and balancing to controlling accounts.
- Identifying and correcting posting and coding errors; preparing trial balances and financial reports such as sales‑tax, mileage, and collection reports.
- Reconciliation of bank accounts and assisting in reconciliation with the Auditor’s abstract.
- Preparing payrolls or requisitions as needed for bookkeeping assignments.
- Overseeing a group of bookkeeping machine operators, if required.
- Performing inventory control activities, including check‑in/check‑out of stock and equipment, posting transactions, reconciling physical inventory, and reporting discrepancies.
- Conducting regular office and field checks of departmental installations for clerical accuracy of accounting documents.
- OPTION I:
One year’s clerical experience in bookkeeping, assisting in the maintenance of a double‑entry accounting system and associated subsidiary records. - OPTION II:
One year’s clerical experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records, plus completion of a high‑school level course in bookkeeping or elementary accounting. - PHYSICAL CLASS II – Light:
Administrative positions may involve occasional light lifting to 10 lb and bending, stooping, or squatting. - Special Requirement:
If qualifying under Option II, submit a copy of official high‑school transcripts within seven (7) calendar days of filing electronically.
During the initial 90‑day work period, performance is evaluated on a weighted 100 % basis. A passing score may lead to permanent appointment as Account Clerk I.

Available ShiftAppointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
