Loan Clerk
Provide a wide variety of clerical and administrative support to Commercial and Consumer Loan Officers.
- Coordinate loan closings with customers for new loans, extensions/modifications of existing loans.
- Provide backup support to other loan assistants when necessary.
- Answer the phones and greet customers for new accounts, mortgage loans, and teller line to ensure timely service.
- Exercise independent judgment under moderate supervision.
- Conduct relationships and activities consistent with established bank policies, procedures, and systems, corporate code of conduct, Bank Secrecy Act, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Work directly with lenders to provide administrative support in all areas of the loan process, including handling phone calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments and meetings, and assisting with meeting preparation.
- Prepare and work exception reports as requested by lenders (e.g., Technical Exception lists, Expired/Cancelled Insurance reports, Past Due Reports).
- Facilitate processing of loan payments and loan advances as requested by customers.
- Coordinate closings with customers for approved commercial and installment loans; respond to inquiries regarding loan status, technical exceptions, documents, and other banking questions.
- Work with the Loan Processing team to ensure all documents required for new loans are obtained.
- Order supporting documentation for closings as needed (flood determinations, credit bureaus, appraisals, title work, UCC searches, insurance, etc.).
- Prepare loan documentation for loan closings.
- Close loans with customers and book new loans after closing, including filing and perfecting liens, disbursing funds, and scanning all documents into the electronic loan file.
- Provide accurate product information and actively seek cross‑sell opportunities.
- Establish, implement, and maintain procedures to assure all loan actions are processed correctly and timely.
- Maintain a comprehensive procedures manual on all job responsibilities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in providing exemplary customer service in person and by phone, maintaining a friendly, positive, and professional attitude.
- Operate a variety of office administration equipment and programs.
- Advise on problems with procedures, policies, calculations, deadlines, and other issues.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area; ensure confidential records are secured or disposed of properly.
- Attend and complete all required training.
- High school education or equivalent.
- At least two years of general office experience or completion of an associate’s degree in administrative office systems or related area.
- Previous experience as a loan assistant is desirable.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer relationship skills and ability to work well with supervisors, co‑workers, and customers cooperatively and positively.
- Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
- Letter formatting skills.
- Computer experience is desirable.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision.
