General Statement

Under the general supervision of the Graphics & Marketing Director, the Junior Social Media Assistant provides programmatic support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Social Media Assistant is responsible for performing varied marketing and communication tasks and projects for the effective operation of the U-SU Graphics department.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in planning and execution of social media strategy through research, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification;
  • Develops content for various social platforms consistent with the U-SU brand;
  • Optimizes social media platforms to increase the visibility of U-SU departments;
  • Assists with maintaining U-SU policies with SMP platforms;
  • Attends and participates in scheduled Graphics staff meetings, meetings with supervisor, and
  • U-SU training sessions;
  • Provides quality customer service to the University community;
  • Assists with projects and events, and may assist staff with leading Production Aide on projects;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;
  • Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;
  • Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;
  • Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize and complete assigned duties and varied tasks;
  • Strong interpersonal and group communication skills in a team environment;
  • Must be self-motivated, able to adjust to changing workloads, and have some independent judgment;
  • Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;
  • Experience using various desktop and web-based applications and office equipment;
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Mac Intosh applications, and printing preferred;
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of social media platforms and social analytic tools preferred;
  • Customer service experience preferred.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
