Summary of DutiesPerforms a variety of specialized clerical functions in support of an assigned school or District office function; administers budgets for an individual school; monitors expenditures of special programs serving as liaison between County and State agencies and site personnel; works in Special Program offices at the comprehensive high schools performing a variety of clerical duties such as payroll and personnel; serves as registrar and lead worker;
works directly with teachers, students and community members coordinating activities with outside districts and agencies; operates a computer full time at a comprehensive high school to generate master schedules, report cards, lists, labels, test scores and reports which have school-wide impact, and performs other related duties as required.
A Senior Office Assistant works under the supervision of an administrator. Incumbents are expected to become very knowledgeable of the individual programs, functions and guidelines and must be able to work independently. Errors can impact the entire school site or program, have fairly broad consequences (e.g. incorrect class schedules for 3,000 students) and generate problems for community members as well as other school districts.
The class of Senior Office Assistant is distinguished from the class of Office Assistant in that the latter typically has a lead secretarial/clerical employee or a counselor/teacher readily available to provide assistance or direction and may be assigned a wide variety of general clerical duties, whereas those in the class of Senior Office Assistant tend to work with coordinators and administrators performing specialized activities requiring detailed knowledge of program guidelines and/or operating procedures.
