Position is located in the San Diego Office.
Under the general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) II, the BTA I is responsible for a variety of compliance and administrative functions. The BTA I manages and controls vital day-to-day operational functions to promote compliance, deter fraud/tax evasion, and enhance compliance for all programs administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). As part of these operational functions, the incumbent directs team members to conduct investigations, identify non‑compliant entities, review, research, and act upon leads, visit businesses, analyze cases, and evaluate books and records and financial documents.
The incumbent integrates and applies practices, policies, and procedures across both compliance and audit functions and may work with external teams to keep work coordinated, managed, and productive. The incumbent is responsible for motivating, training, and developing team members and monitoring employee performance.
The position requires the incumbent to travel up to fifty percent (50%) of the time, including overnight travel, subject to operational needs.
Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.
