Job SummaryThe Director of Music Ministry is responsible for overseeing and developing the music program of the church to enhance worship and support the spiritual growth of the congregation. This role includes directing choirs, coordinating musicians, selecting music in alignment with the church calendar and theology, and leading worship services. The Director of Music Ministry collaborates closely with the pastoral team, worship leaders, and volunteers to foster a vibrant, Christ‑centered worship environment that reflects the mission and values of the church.
Job Responsibilities Worship Leadership- Plan, coordinate, and lead music for all regular worship services (e.g., Sunday services, seasonal services such as Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, etc.)
- Select appropriate music that aligns with the sermon themes, liturgical calendar, and theological emphasis of the church
- Lead congregational singing and/or direct the worship team or choir as appropriate
- Direct adult choir(s), children’s choir(s), and/or instrumental ensembles, including rehearsals and performances
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteer musicians and vocalists
- Encourage and facilitate participation from a diverse range of congregants
- Coordinate with the pastoral team and worship committee to plan worship services
- Manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, supplies, and equipment
- Maintain the music library and ensure copyright compliance
- Schedule and organize rehearsals, and communicate effectively with all music ministry participants
- Plan and coordinate music for weddings, funerals, and other special services as requested
- Organize special music programs (e.g., Christmas cantatas, concerts, or community outreach events)
- Model Christian character and spiritual maturity in leadership and relationships
- Mentor and spiritually support music ministry volunteers
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in music, sacred music, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in church music ministry or equivalent experience
