Overview

Provide medical services involving examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients as Family Medicine physicians in ambulatory care facilities. The Primary Care Clinic Physician and the Per Diem Primary Care Clinic Physician are At-Will classifications that are exempt from the Civil Service Ordinance.

Salary and Benefits
  • Primary Care Clinic Physician:
    Biweekly salary $9,042.72 – $10,474.31 (prorated based on hours worked biweekly).
  • Per Diem Primary Care Clinic Physician: $560.00 per half-day of work.
  • Benefits include:
    General Salary Increase (GSI) of 4.0% effective Oct 12, 2025, and 3.5% effective Oct 11, 2026;
    Bilingual Incentive up to $1.32 per hour;
    Loan Repayment Programs; 13 paid holidays per year (including two floating holidays); 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and 457 Plan with up to 3% match; health, dental, and vision insurance with a flexible credit allowance up to $25,558 annually;

Ventura County is located on California s "Gold Coast," between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara with a Mediterranean climate and high quality of life. The Health Care Agency Ambulatory Care department includes 34 clinics that provide outpatient health care services, from routine care to chronic conditions.

The Position

Provides medical services involving examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients as Family Medicine physicians in ambulatory care facilities.

Examples Of Duties
  • Provides comprehensive, family-oriented, culturally sensitive clinical care for patients throughout the life cycle; collects medical histories, performs physical examinations, makes diagnoses, and treats patients.
  • Prescribes medications and treatment, monitors progress, and adjusts treatment as needed.
  • Immunizes patients against communicable diseases.
  • Advises patients on evidence-based lifestyle changes and helps develop self-management goals.
  • Coordinates with care team to provide high-quality patient care and meet treatment goals.
  • Manage high volume of patients and adapt to changes and delays.
  • Follow workflows to support quality improvement and patient access.
  • Explain care plans clearly in verbal and written form.
  • Advise nursing and staff on medication administration; issue physician orders.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests as necessary; consult with other physicians and refer to specialists as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with policies.
  • Keep problem and medication lists up to date; respond to portal messages and provide coverage when needed.
  • Counsel patients and families about conditions; obtain informed consent for treatment.
  • May participate in an on-call system; attend meetings and training as determined by Ambulatory Care administration.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain CME requirements.
  • Administer first aid/CPR in emergencies; comply with medical laws (HIPAA) and mandated reporting for domestic violence and child abuse.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Training, and

Experience:

Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program; degree in Medicine; at least 3 years of residency training; current state medical license; DEA number; completion and passing of USMLE.

  • Necessary Special Requirements:
    Meet Ventura County Medical Center Medical Staff Credentialing requirements;
    Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine.
