California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking a Senior Psychiatrist (Supervisor) (C&RS (Safety)) to lead psychiatric services at Mule Creek State Prison, Ione, CA in Amador County.

Base Pay

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full‑time employee in Bargaining Unit 16, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 4.62 percent and to receive 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months.

Salaries do not reflect these recent changes. Part‑time employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full‑time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period. Effective July 1, 2023, employees in this class who are physically located at and assigned to direct in‑person patient care on grounds or at a facility shall receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay.

Only employees who provide direct patient care for more than 50% of the pay period are eligible for this pay differential.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief Psychiatrist, the Senior Psychiatrist Supervisor provides general supervision of Staff Psychiatrists and other mental health staff; directs specialized psychiatric assessment/treatment programs; participates in the hiring of new Psychiatrists; provides consultation regarding clinical issues to custodial staff; performs special assignments as requested by the Chief Psychiatrist.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Legal requirements to practice medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners (including completion of any required approval).
  • Pattern I:
    Possession of a valid certificate in psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry; two years post‑residency experience in a correctional facility or in a psychiatric inpatient/outpatient setting.
  • Pattern II:
    Satisfactorily completed specialized training requirements in psychiatry in programs accredited by the ACGME, the AOA, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; two years post‑residency experience in a correctional facility or in a psychiatric inpatient/outpatient setting.
  • Pattern III:
    Completion of a broad‑based clinical year of ACGME or AOA‑accredited training program in internal medicine, family medicine, or pediatrics (or an ACGME or AOA‑accredited transitional year program with at least months of primary care, or an ACGME or AOA‑accredited residency in a clinical specialty requiring comprehensive and continuous patient care); three years of postgraduate, specialized residency training in an ACGME or AOA‑accredited psychiatry program;

    two years post‑residency experience in a correctional facility or in a psychiatric inpatient/outpatient setting.
  • Candidates within six months of meeting these requirements may take the examination, but they cannot be appointed until the requirements are met.
