SUMMARY

We are seeking a Science Lab Technician who will assist Science Lab Coordinators in maintaining science laboratories for student instruction.

• Prepares chemical solutions, student unknowns, and standardizes solutions accurately following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to be used by instructors to grade students.
• Documents information about lab reagents (type, chemical make-up, concentration, etc.).
• Develops and updates SOPs for the standardization and creation of solutions to accompany student lab procedures.
• Communicates information about the chemical and concentrations to all chemistry faculty as needed.
• Provides input on the creation of new labs with faculty to create procedures and guarantee proper chemical handling and waste procedures.
• Aids Science Lab Coordinators in the ordering of supplies and equipment for biology, chemistry, physical science and physics labs.
• Maintains SCC credit card purchase records and receipts.
• Washes delicate glassware used by students, faculty, and technicians including volumetric pipets and burets.
• Organizes laboratory rooms and ensures correct supplies and equipment are available according to Lab Coordinator's instructions between and before lab periods, including lab practicals and exams.
• Maintains stock and laboratory equipment, including pH meters, spectrophotometers and instrument gas.
• Opens and closes (locks) lab classroom doors and maintains student equipment drawers.
• Assists instructors in lab activities, greenhouse, aquarium and exhibit care ensuring that any hazardous materials, biological and chemical, are disposed of according to federal and state guidelines.
• Maintains waste logs and ensures proper safety guidelines are communicated to faculty and students.
• Maintains and supplies the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to instructors, students and DPS.
• Coordinates with Environmental Health and Safety Officer for waste collection and disposal.
• Updates lab schedules and inventories.
• Assists Lab Coordinators as needed.

Associate's degree (A.

A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with at least six months general laboratory experience in a related setting.

Ability to operate microscopes, balances, pH meters, autoclave and spectrophotometers preferred. Computer software experience including word processing, data base and spreadsheets.
