The Civil and Environmental Engineering department in the School of Engineering anticipates hiring multiple instructional learning assistants/remedial tutors for the following courses for Academic Year :

    Surveying and Geomatics Fundamentals, Equipment, Methods, and Applications
  • CEE 020:
    Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • CEE 100:
    Civil Engineering for Sustainable Systems
  • CEE 110:
    Engineering Hydrology
  • CEE 120:
    Strength and Sustainability of Materials
  • CEE 130:
    Meteorology and Air Pollution
  • CEE 165:
    Structural Analysis
  • CEE 176:
    Water and Wastewater Treatment
  • CEE 183:
    Field Methods in Subsurface Hydrology
  • CEE 193:
    Civil and Environmental Engineering Capstone Design
  • ENGR 057:
    Statics and Dynamics
  • ENGR 120:
    Fluid Mechanics
  • ENGR 155:
    Engineering Economic Analysis

A Learning Assistant works with groups of students on challenging course materials during class time. The Learning Assistant will help students actively learn in classrooms by managing in‑class discussions and promoting interaction among students. This role is ideal for someone who is a good listener and communicator, wants to help others learn, is interested in teaching, wants to deepen course content knowledge, and wants to work with graduate students and faculty to transform STEM classrooms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate discussion with groups of students in lecture by asking questions to help students learn materials.
  • Attend weekly meetings with course instructor and teaching assistants (TAs) to prepare for sessions.
  • Participate in trainings and a teaching seminar course required for newly hired Learning Assistants.

The University of California Remedial Tutors are represented by the UAW-AFL-CIO.

Refer to Table 20 for the salary range for this position.
