The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer(s) to teach courses in Philosophy for the Academic Year 2025-26. Courses being offered may include but not limited to:
- Introduction to Ethics (an introductory course for students of all majors)
- Love, Sex, and Gender (an introductory course for students of all majors)
- Technology Ethics (an upper-division course required of students in UC Merced's two data science majors)
In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion and lab sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant.
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Three courses in Fall and three courses in Spring are equivalent to full time position. Part time varies based on need and availability.
The anticipated teaching is one course in Fall 2025 and two courses in Spring 2026.
QualificationsAdvanced degree and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
