MTSI is seeking an experienced flight tester who is excited to teach and mentor the next generation of experimental and developmental test pilots, combat system officers, flight test engineers, remotely piloted aircraft test pilots, and space testers.

The 4 major duties for a TPS Tech Expert are
1) Senior Advisor to TPS Leadership,
2) Curriculum Developer,
3) Master’s degree educator, and
4) International Technical Expert.

Individual Duties Include

  • Serves as the top education advisor and senior technical consultant to the TPS Commandant and the Technical Director on the Flight Sciences series of instruction. The Flight Sciences series consists of academic lectures, laboratories, simulators, and flights covering Atmospheric Flight Mechanics, Flight Control Systems, Handling Qualities, Structures, and Envelope Expansion.
  • Oversees the re-integration of the X-62A VISTA into the Flight Sciences curriculum while also participating in advanced flight control and autonomy algorithm research and development.
  • Develops curriculum content and hands-on exercises for emerging Flight Sciences topics such as increased autonomy, AI/ML controls, Collaborative Combat Aircraft control, etc.
  • Provides the technical expertise, corporate knowledge, and long term continuity for Flight Sciences academic course material, ground instructional events (simulators, laboratories, ground test), and in-flight instructional methods taught by the USAF TPS.
  • Defines, integrates, and implements curriculum development and strategic initiatives for a graduate-level educational program to ensure the TPS curriculum includes state-of-the-art test technology and continues to advance new concepts in flight testing and flight test education, test and safety planning, data collection and analysis, and reporting.
  • Teaches academic courses, leads simulator and/or laboratory sessions, and conducts control room and in-flight instruction.
  • Analyzes and evaluates a student's progress relative to syllabus objectives.
  • Represents TPS and the AFTC as a recognized Flight Test Technical Expert at national and international symposia and conferences.
  • Acts as technical and/or safety advisor, subject matter expert, and/or report reviewer for AFMC, DoD, NASA, other government agencies, and allied nations as required.
Flying Opportunities

There are flying opportunities in multiple military and Qualitative Evaluation aircraft and, depending on your background and desires, there’s the possibility to be an instructor in gliders and Cessnas.

Research Opportunities

There are options to mentor student Test Management Projects and participate in staff Research Projects which deal with cutting edge research topics that span the entire spectrum from advanced flight controls, autonomy, AI/ML control, new EO/IR sensors, revolutionary navigation techniques, cyber and electronic warfare concepts, battle management algorithms, enhanced human vehicle interface systems, etc.

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in flight test
Desired

  • Graduate of a military test pilot school
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Flight Test Conductor and/or Test Director experience
  • Be an internationally recognized flight test technical expert as evident through participation with professional organizations such as SFTE, SETP, AIAA, ITEA, etc.
  • Ability to maintain an FAA class II medical certificate
Travel

Travel up to 10% may be required for this position.

Clearance Requirements

Active DoD TS/SCI eligibility is required. Ability to obtain SAP security clearance is also required.

U.S. Citizenship is required.
