Cal Poly Humboldt invites applicants for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position with an emphasis in Media Arts, with a primary focus on teaching film production from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Applicants should be artist‑scholars with expertise in filmmaking and an ability to teach across at least one additional emphasis area within the program—Animation, Design, Sound, or Photography.
DescriptionCal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Art + Film invite candidates who integrate creative and ethical storytelling, engage interdisciplinary practices, and contribute to the new BFA in Media Arts.
Professional Duties- Teaching undergraduate courses in film production and interdisciplinary media arts (animation, design, sound, photography).
- Supporting capstone projects and collaborative, cross‑disciplinary work.
- Curriculum development, advising students, and defining the direction of the Media Arts major.
- Research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the university, profession, and community.
Assistant Professor rank; salary range $74,652–$158,688 with an anticipated starting salary of $80,000. Full benefits package available.
Minimum Qualifications- Earned MFA (or other terminal degree) in Media Arts or a closely related field.
- Record of training or experience in the field of Media Arts.
- Excellence in university‑level teaching in film production and interdisciplinary media arts.
- Broad knowledge of media art technologies, concepts, and practices.
- Professional achievement evidenced by festivals, exhibitions, publications, commissions, and awards.
- Experience working effectively with a diverse student population.
- Knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to design and update curriculum reflecting contemporary practices.
- Commitment to collegiality and participation in departmental and community life.
- Successful university teaching beyond the teaching assistant level.
- Leadership or administration experience in an arts or academic environment.
- Service or professional engagement contributing to governance or institutional development.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration across programs or community partnerships.
