Tenure Track Position in Modern and Contemporary (20th and 21st century) Art History
Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professor in Modern and Contemporary Art History to begin in the Fall of 2026. Candidates with research and teaching intersecting the art of the Global South, gender and sexuality, critical disability studies, or theories of art and architectural history are especially encouraged. The teaching load is four courses per year (2/2) plus senior thesis advising.
The candidate will offer survey courses in European Modernism, the Art World Since 1989, and upper‑division seminars in the Program in Art History at the Claremont Colleges. Participation in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities at Scripps College is also expected. A Ph.D. degree must be complete by the position’s start date and a minimum of one year of teaching experience (four courses) is required.
The lecturer will teach the courses listed, advise senior theses, contribute to the Core Curriculum, and participate in departmental and college service activities.
QualificationsPh.D. in Art History or a closely related field, with a research agenda aligned to Modern and Contemporary (20th and 21st century) Art History. Prior teaching experience equivalent to at least one academic year of coursework is required.

Salary$84,767 to $94,185, based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
