St Charles Community College seeks a part‑time Academic & Success Coach who will play an integral role in the EXCELerator and the college s role provides subject‑specific tutoring while serving as a holistic guide to help students navigate their academic journey and connect them with campus resources. It involves developing the broader skills needed for students to have long‑term success in both academics and their careers.
This role serves as tutor, mentor, facilitator of self‑discovery, accountability partner, skills developer, and champion of growth and transformation.
- Providing individualized academic coaching in either of the following subject areas:
Writing - Serving as a campus mentor/navigator for SCC Students
- Helping students develop effective learning strategies, study skills, time management, and organizational skills, etc.
- Assisting students in identifying academic strengths and areas for improvement
- Supporting students in navigating academic challenges, setting goals, and overcoming obstacles
- Providing proactive outreach to at‑risk students and connecting them with resources
- Developing and distributing supplemental learning materials to support students
- Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to students, faculty, and administration as needed
- Planning and executing academic engagement events, such as Study Hall Slam Sessions and Student Empowerment events
- Collaborating with department chairs to create course review workshops
- Developing and facilitating workshops, seminars, and training programs on academic success topics
- Creating and implementing strategies to improve student retention and completion rates
- Collaborating with faculty and other departments to enhance student support
- Developing and implementing procedures for programming to include faculty and department input, attendance tracking, and assessment of student progress
- Connecting students with campus resources, such as counseling, disability services, student health & wellness, student life, career services, advising, and financial aid
- Mentor students to help them learn how to self‑advocate with their faculty or other support services
- Participating in SCC's “Teams Supporting Teams” initiatives; this includes supporting student services areas:
Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services, Student Activities, and Student Health & Wellness
- Maintaining regular and accurate records of student interactions and progress in the appropriate system
- Tracking student attendance and faculty collaboration at programming events
- Collecting data and preparing reports on student success and retention initiatives
- Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, Literature or Education
- Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in English, Literature or Education
- Experience: 2-3 years of teaching and/or tutoring experience with high school/college‑level students
