School Counselor Responsibilities:
- Provide counseling and instruction for students with social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
- Conduct student evaluations and assessments for mental-health concerns and need for additional support.
- Collaborate with teachers, faculty, parents, and outside providers to address students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Teach classes in student life and facilitate Health/Wellness workshops.
- Assist with the development of community life curriculum and residential life programming.
- Promote an inclusive working and community environment.
- Design and implement student progress monitoring systems.
- Assist student support team with evaluating eligibility for special education services.
- Implement school-wide prevention programs that help maintain positive school climates.
School Counselor Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in School Psychology or related required.
- At least 5 years of mental health counseling experience required. K-12 experience preferred.
- Valid state certification or counseling licensure required.
- Experience in teaching health, wellness, and life skills topics to high school students.
- Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health disorders, and learning disabilities.
- Current knowledge of the ethical standards and code of the counseling profession and on established rules, regulations and laws governing education and counseling.
- Well-organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities.
- Detail-oriented and resilient.
- U.S. Work Authorization required.
