Job Title
Head Start Teacher – Children's Institute
Job DescriptionPlans, organizes and implements the care, development and education of infants, toddlers and preschool children ages birth to five, including those with typical and atypical development.
Responsibilities- Plans and implements educational curriculum for infants, toddlers and preschool children, which reflects developmental, cultural, and linguistic appropriateness.
- Ensures compliance with applicable company policies and procedures and relevant program regulations (Early Head Start, Head Start, CDE, First 5 LA, Title 5 regulations and Title 22 Community Care Licensing regulations).
- Ensures proper care and supervision for each child at all times and adheres to standards of conduct.
- Ensures the classroom and all equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.
- Conducts home visits each year as required by funding source.
- Records observations, shares information about the child with parents and/or CII staff, and plans with them on how best to meet the child’s needs.
- Communicates with parents daily, verbally or in writing, regarding the physical care and development of the child.
- Completes and submits incident reports as necessary.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality regarding children and their families in compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policy.
- Maintains daily records of each child’s attendance, health and behavior, reports of suspicions of child abuse or neglect and communicates this information to appropriate specialists or Family Service Workers.
- Maintains working knowledge of current practices in early childhood education through reading, participation in seminars and other education opportunities and personal contacts/memberships in the field.
- Utilizes data from DRDP outcomes and other program data to individualize lesson plans to best benefit the child.
- Adheres to family‑style meal requirements and ensures meal counts are recorded at the point of services.
- Develops and maintains strong and caring relationships with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and parents.
- Completes objective ongoing observations to support assessments and portfolios.
- Tracks child’s development, individualized education plans, and lesson plans.
- Establishes a climate of acceptance that supports and respects gender, each child’s individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure and developmental needs and behaviors.

- Education & Experience (Head Start Teacher)
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field with a minimum of 24 units of ECE coursework from a four‑year university (preferred).
- Associate’s/equivalent required with continued enrollment in a BA program.
- A valid first aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one within the introductory period.
- Education & Experience (Early Head Start Teacher)
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field with a minimum of 24 units of ECE coursework from a four‑year university (preferred).
- Prior experience working with infants and toddlers is preferred.
- Three semester units in infant and toddler development, with a total of six units within the first year of employment with CII required.
- A valid first aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one within the introductory period.
- Other Qualifications
- Demonstrated skill in curriculum development and modification for children birth to five years.
- Prior experience with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Creative Curriculum.
- Ability to satisfy Title 22 requirements for a Teacher.
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Participation in, conduct, and sustain performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
- Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
