Overview

Dallas County R-1 School is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the  school year. The candidate should have a cross categorical certification. The role involves managing a caseload, implementing IEPs, providing core instruction at varying levels, and completing required paperwork. The applicant will collaborate with district team members, analyze data, and communicate regularly with parents. Professionalism and effective interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Provides instruction to students.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive classroom environment to promote learning.
  • Creates and implements a classroom disciplinary plan.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior; develops reasonable rules for classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Creates lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction.
  • Implements effective teaching techniques, strategies and skills to meet instructional objectives of curriculum goals.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and communicates objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable for the location and student needs.
  • Assesses student progress regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Recognizes characteristics of learning disabilities and seeks district specialist assistance as needed for evaluation.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline, as appropriate for grade level.
  • Maintains records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom.
  • Participates in building, grade level and subject area committees and professional development activities.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Completes and submits forms and required reports in a timely manner.
  • Available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • Communicates regularly with parents regarding progress and educational concerns.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers; evaluates their job performance with department heads.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence and be a positive role model.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal relationships with students, school personnel, and parents/community members.
  • Reports suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassment as directed by Board policy.
  • Prepares lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher and maintains the confidentiality of school matters.
Qualifications
  • Cross categorical Special Education certification.
  • Ability to manage a caseload, comply with IEPs, collaborate with staff, analyze data, and communicate with parents.
  • Strong professionalism and interpersonal skills.
