General
Summary:
A paraprofessional supports classroom instruction by reinforcing curriculum, assisting with lesson materials, and delivering learning activities tailored to students’ needs. They provide academic and behavioral support through feedback, organization, and effective classroom management techniques under the direction of the teacher. Additionally, they help monitor student progress, assist with IEP-related tasks, and maintain a positive, orderly learning environment while upholding confidentiality.
- Displays an understanding of district curriculum
- Maintains appropriate knowledge of subject matter contained in each discipline
- Employs a variety of teaching techniques appropriate to the functioning level of students and the instructional objectives demonstrated by the teacher
- Provides and promotes maximum student involvement opportunities to experience success in instructional activities
- Incorporates instructional prescriptions for remediation and/or enrichment
- Provides input in selecting activities appropriate to the abilities, needs and interests of the students
- Assists in the organization and preparation of appropriate institutional materials
- Assists in maintaining the classroom in a functional, attractive and orderly environment conducive to student learning (i.e., bulletin boards, displays, posters, etc.)
- Provides students with timely written or verbal feedback
- Provides teacher with feedback on student performance
- Assists students with evaluating their own performance
- Assists the teacher in maintaining student progress reports
- Assists the teacher in complying with IEP deadlines and objectives
- Reproduces materials for learning activities
- Assists in preparation/dissemination of correspondence
- Assists the teacher in evaluating student work (i.e., tests, quizzes, etc.)
- Demonstrates appropriate motivational techniques
- Enforces behavioral expectations and demonstrates effective techniques as directed by the classroom teacher to maintain appropriate behavior
- Communicates information to the teacher regarding student behavior
- Manages discipline problems in accordance with administrative regulations, school board policies and legal requirements
- Maintains confidential nature of all school-related matters
- Other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum education level)
- Minimum of 60 college credit hours or Para Praxis Pro Certification
- Experience in construction is preferred
- Positive, pleasant work attitude and ability to relate to staff, students and the public
- Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds and capable of physical exertion to manually lift, push, pull, bend and carry
- Must submit and pass a background check
Position Details: Classified (non‑exempt) – Term of service: 162 days.
