If you will be eligible for a California Education Specialist Intern, Preliminary/Level I or Clear/Level II credential for Moderate/Severe or Extensive Support Needs by July 2026, please apply.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction and services for students whose needs are identified in individualized education programs (IEPs) and assigned to the Special Day Program (SDP).
  • Support all academic, behavioral, and transition areas; effectively instruct students in small group or general‑education classroom settings.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, planning accommodations and modifications to provide access to core or alternative curriculum and behavior support plans.
  • Co‑teach general‑education classes to increase service delivery for special‑education students in the general‑education classroom.
  • Consult on evaluation data utilization, behavior pattern assessment, classroom‑management techniques, and resource identification.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and monitor individual educational plans.
  • Provide direct support to student success teams (SST) and 504 teams by developing intervention plans for at‑risk students.
  • Provide workshops and professional development for staff on special‑education procedures, accommodation techniques, and best practices for serving students with exceptional needs.
  • Train paraprofessionals in special‑education guidelines and IEP implementation; monitor service delivery through accountability systems.
  • Meet with professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress; resolve behavioral and academic problems with parents, guardians, counselors, and administrators.
Coordination of IEPs/Services
  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare IEPs per laws, district policies, and regulations.
  • Participate as an IEP team member in placement decisions and program development; analyze data when revising IEPs.
  • Coordinate referrals, assessments, team meetings, implementation of services, data collection, and distribution of special‑education media and materials.
