The Baker Center for Children and Families promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through research, intervention, training, and policy. Camp Baker is a program premised on the Summer Treatment Program (STP), a model program for service delivery for child and family mental health. The Camp Baker summer graduate position provides trainees with didactic learning in the STP model, implementation of the complex behavioral system with a group of children, experience taking behavioral data, and formal and informal supervision.

Employment:
Monday, July 6, 2026 – Friday, August 21, 2026.
Hours:
7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday–Friday, with additional work until 6:00 pm one evening each week while caregivers participate in parent training sessions.
- Receive extensive training and hands‑on experience implementing an evidence‑based intervention and behavioral principles in a classroom setting.
- Gain experience creating curriculum and/or modifying existing curriculum covering social‑emotional content, bullying prevention, and academic content.
- Gain supervisory experience by providing clinical support to undergraduate teaching assistants.
- Gain over 200 hours of supervised direct clinical experience with neurodiverse children ages 6–12.
- Practicum and academic credits can be arranged through a Graduate Classroom Teacher’s own program.
- Implement an extensive behavior modification treatment program during classroom activities, including feedback, daily and weekly rewards, social praise, and age‑appropriate removal from positive reinforcement.
- Deliver the treatment components during four daily academic periods Monday through Thursday to improve on‑task behavior, follow director directives, increase social‑emotional skills, and exhibit appropriate classroom behavior.
- Plan and conduct teaching topics (e.g., bullying prevention, academic content, social‑emotional content) for 30 minutes of daily instruction and 10 minutes of daily seatwork; assign 5‑minute homework individualized to each child’s abilities and learning needs.
- Participate in week‑long didactic training on behavior modification principles and orientation to treatment approach and intervention components.
- Supervise two teaching assistants who will assist with academic instruction, seatwork completion, classroom management, lesson planning, and record‑keeping.
- Work under the supervision of the Director of Camp Baker and closely with doctor‑level clinicians and other experienced staff members while receiving regular feedback to ensure high quality of service delivery.
- Identify and implement individualized academic goals for children when needed.
- Must be able to use physical management procedures to help maintain the safety of children ages 6–12. Undergraduate counselors will come into close contact with campers and other staff and will be unable to socially distance.
- Abide by policies and procedures regarding the behavioral modification program, daily classroom activities, and physical management of, and injuries to, campers.
- Master’s degree in Education/Special Education, licensed teacher, or working toward licensure.
- Enrolled in a graduate‑level program in School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Education/Special Education, or a related field of study, or extensive experience in related programs.
- Experience working in special education classrooms, with children with behavioral or emotional difficulties, or running social‑emotional groups with children.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in settings such as summer camps, after‑school programs, sports programs, daycare programs, and/or educational programs is preferred.
- Based on the current state of the COVID‑19 pandemic, a fully effective vaccination with the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a pre‑condition to employment.

Salary: $5,000 – $5,500
