SCC's Community Education Department is seeking Summer Camp Assistants
to work during Summer Camp 2026
. The job reports directly to the Program Specialist and is paired with a camp instructor to help with a half- or full-day camp. Camp Assistants will be matched to camps that best suit their skills and backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Work toward making each child enjoy their camp experience and enjoy this summer as well!
  • Be involved and engaged in ALL activities during camp, assisting and participating in activities with instructor and campers
  • Read and understand information and expectations about health and background/IEPs for campers in your assigned camp PRIOR to the beginning of camp
  • Organize and restore supplies for camp
  • Assist with morning check in/registration and sign-out at end of day
  • Assist with camp set up and clean up
  • Escort children to lunch, recess, bathroom breaks
  • Clean-up after camp has ended daily and return items to storage on Fridays
  • Assist instructor in handling and de-escalating situations that may occur during camp (medical/behavioral)
  • Monitor campers, ensure campers follow camp rules and work to prevent accidents
  • Taking responsibility for care and safety of the participants
  • Any other responsibilities that may arise

Seeking individuals who can demonstrate the following:

  • Responsible and comfortable working with children between ages 5-14
  • Follow instructions from instructors and SCC staff
  • Reliable, interactive, and engaging during camp hours
  • No cell phone use during work hours unless there is an emergency
  • Flexible with schedule changes or duty changes during summer
  • Able to handle situations that may arise during camp, from injuries to behavioral problems

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Weekly between June 1 and August 7, 2026
  • Hours:

    8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours until 6:30 p.m. as assigned
  • Payrate: $15/hr
  • Assistants will be scheduled as needed. Please provide vacations and conflicts during application/interview process. No guarantee to have full-time work for all 9 weeks of camp. Ideal candidates will be available and commit for a minimum of 7 of the 9 weeks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school junior or older, age 16+. Punctual, responsible and trustworthy with confidential information. Basic computer skills & ability to use electronic communication platforms (Ie. Microsoft Teams, Outlook) Trainings required before start date (Trainings will be offered on-site, if not already certified):
HR Orientation (new SCC employees only) KnowBe4 Technology Safety Training Summer Staff Orientation CPR & Epi-pen Mandated Reporter Must be able to handle behavioral issues when they arise.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some office experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with children.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
