Position: Chemistry Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Madera Community College
Location: California

Overview

Chemistry Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) at Madera Community College. This posting is part of a continuous recruitment process for part-time faculty positions. Applications will be reviewed by members of the hiring department when vacancies arise.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in Chemistry on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, as assigned.
  • Teach a part-time schedule of Chemistry courses as assigned.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology-enhanced approaches for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines of record.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments and oral responses in alignment with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Accept teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122, and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, and a commitment to equity-minded practice within the classroom.

  • Master’s in chemistry; or
  • Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry and Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency).

Note:

If the degrees posted on transcripts do not match exactly as stated above, you must petition for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into instructional practice.
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding patterns of exclusion in higher education.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with educational technologies used to provide high-quality instruction and student support.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; knowledge of the community college mission.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary classifications will be based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
