Responsibilities
  • Monitor Child Development, Disabilities, Nutrition and Wellness program—including case reviews, classroom observations, child file reviews, in‑house staffing, monthly CLASS reviews, child and classroom transitions, and coordination of services while maintaining confidentiality of child and family. Perform classroom teacher duties as necessary.
  • Provide direct supervision to Classroom Teachers and/or Assistant Teachers, conduct performance appraisals, and coordinate direct technical assistance.
  • Recruit and train volunteers who assist with child development duties such as screenings, assessments, home visits, parent/teacher conferences, lesson planning, and referrals of children with potential disabilities.
  • Plan and coordinate First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, Blood‑borne Pathogen/Universal Precautions, Shaken Baby Syndrome, and Child Abuse/Neglect trainings for staff, parents, and volunteers in conjunction with the Center Manager.
  • Maintain a database management system for Head Start Services in child development, disabilities, and mental health.
  • Provide training and technical assistance in areas of child development, disabilities, mental health, nutrition, and transition services, and ensure coordination of services to children among staff.
  • Monitor procedures for case reviews, health emergencies, injury/accident prevention, reporting (including to parents), and follow‑up, as well as individualization/modifications for children with special needs.
  • Assist in developing Professional Development Plans through promotion of T&TA forms and the review of observations, CLASS scores, and data.
  • Coordinate pre‑service orientation for staff and volunteers, ensuring they receive content area and agency training before assuming duties.
  • Track classroom teachers’ compliance with job duties—screenings, assessments, home visits, conference, lesson plans, child outcomes, case notes, file reviews, curriculum implementation, and adherence to policies and Head Start standards.
  • Ensure required documentation, tracking systems, reports, and referrals are completed accurately and submitted to Regional staff promptly.
  • Oversee the implementation of Disabilities and Child Food and Adult Care Program (CACFP) policies—family‑style meal services, menus, schedules, and classroom nutritional activities.
  • Assess and implement Disabilities & Mental Wellness services; recruit children with disabilities and provide guidance to classroom teachers in line with Head Start standards and licensing mandates.
  • Implement IEP/IFSP goals in coordination with teaching staff.
  • Coordinate health, disability, pregnant women and newborns home visits with Family Services and teaching staff to maximize efficiency.
  • Maintain child supervision and staff‑child ratios in each classroom and ensure active supervision procedures—including bus security and loading/unloading—are implemented and monitored.
  • Determine staff classroom teaching assignments and required space based on Head Start performance standards and licensing regulations in consultation with the Center Manager.
  • Coordinate the Disabilities and Mental Wellness services, including scheduling consultants and facilitating parental access to services.
  • Assist in managing the Center budget, including collection and processing of non‑federal share (In‑kind) with required documentation for Child Development and Health per UMOS policy.
  • Review and approve lesson plans, home visits, and field trips—ensuring activities are individualized to reflect school readiness goals.
  • Attend Center and Regional staff meetings, case reviews, trainings and other program activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of classroom experience or a combination of one year classroom and one year supervisory experience.
  • Presentation/training experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred:
    Bilingual in English and Spanish, oral and written.
