POSITION DESCRIPTIONLECTURERINHEALTHJUSTICE&COMMUNITY
The Health Justice and Communityinitiativeatthe Universityof California ,Santa Barbarainvitesapplicationsforqualifiedlecturerswithstrongresearchtrainingandinnovativepedagogicexperienceto teachcoursesincriticalhealthjustice.
Thisinitiativeiscurrentlyhousedin theDepartmentof
Exercise and Sport Studies,whichis undergoingcurriculartransformationsand focusing on thesocial,cultural,and politicalfoundationsofhealthjustice.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be hired to develop and teach both small and large courses as part of the Department’s new curricular offerings, includinganintroductorycourseonhealthjustice&community.
We areespeciallyinterestedin candidateswhosescholarlyinterestsgobeyondstandardbiomedical andpublichealthapproachesto teachinterdisciplinaryhealthjusticecenteredcoursesonsuchtopicsas: criticaldisabilitystudies,food justice,environmental/climate justice, health disparities/policy, reproductive care, indigenous knowledge production, community healing practices, migrant healthcare,medical racism/apartheid,colonial medicine,etc.
And, while an on-going research agenda is not expected of this position, candidates must show evidence of strong research training in order to teach research methods(qualitative/humanistic or quantitative) as partoftheirteachingrepertoire.

Basic qualifications (requiredattimeofapplication)
Ph.D.orABD(allbut dissertation) trainedina socialscienceorrelevantinterdisciplinaryfieldsuchas feminist,queer,global,ethnicand/or Americanstudiesisaminimumrequirement.
Candidatemusthaveatleastoneyearofteachingexperience.
Preferred qualifications
Morethanone yearof teachingexperienceanda strongrecordofinnovative,community-engagedteachingdesired.
Evidenceofstrongresearchtrainingincriticalhealthjusticein orderto teachresearchmethods(qualitative/humanisticorquantitative) aspartoftheirteachingrepertoire.
