Job Summary

Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the open position of Academic Fellow. The Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacy Education at the Xavier University College of Pharmacy is a 12‑month postgraduate program offered to pharmacy professionals with a strong interest in pursuing a career in academia. The fellow will have the opportunity to train in a culturally diverse environment with practical experience in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical practice.

The academic fellow will work with administrators and faculty to gain teaching experience in a variety of classroom settings, precepting APPE students, and participating in scholarship. The program also includes opportunities to gain insights about curriculum design and program assessment. In the process, the fellow will obtain a teaching certificate. AA/ EOE.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The fellowship is one year long. During the year, the fellow will complete experiences in all pillars of academia. The training year will consist of approximately 60‑70% teaching‑and academic‑related duties and 30‑40% clinical practice.

Teaching and College Service
  • Design, implement, facilitate, and deliver innovative educational content within the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Assist or act as the primary instructor in both didactic and experiential courses of the College as assigned by the Division Chair.
  • Engage in a long‑term focus within a specialty area of academia (e.g., Assessment, Curriculum, Admissions, Faculty Affairs, etc.).
  • Develop skills essential for effective course coordination, provide preceptorship to Advanced Pharmacy Practice students during clinical rotations, and engage in mentorship through student organizations and community service activities.
  • Complete the ASHP Teaching Certificate for Pharmacists Program (if not already completed).
  • Complete a research project related to the scholarship of teaching, learning, and/or education.
  • Present research data at a professional meeting and submit a manuscript to a peer‑reviewed journal prior to the end of the fellowship.
Clinical Practice
  • The fellow shall be required to maintain a practice site in either Ambulatory Care or Internal Medicine for one day a week.
  • Coordinate and staff health fairs or other community outreach events as scheduled through the Xavier University Health and Wellness Center. This includes supervising pharmacy practice at these events.
  • Cultivate pharmacy practice experience and expertise to complement the clinical knowledge required of a faculty member.
