Position Summary

To provide instruction, guided practice, assessments, remediation, and enrichment through a variety of learning opportunities and ensure a positive, successful educational experience for students. Ensures that all students acquire the grade level expectation skills set forth by Missouri Department of Education and Hillsboro R‑3 curriculum.

Essential Duties
  • Develop a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
  • Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Assign lessons, correct homework, and provide students with positive feedback and constructive criticism on assignments.
  • Administer tests to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports or conduct meetings to inform parents of progress.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Keep attendance records.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom.
  • Recognize and refer students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems to the required district specialists.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with parents.
Marginal Duties
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, mentor programs and teacher training workshops.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • Perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more co‑curricular activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems.
  • Contribute to the decisions made by the District and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personnel well‑being.
  • Maintain a physically and aesthetically attractive classroom setting and exercise proper care of school equipment.
  • Share responsibility for supervision of students in all areas of the schools through activities such as monitoring student activity between classes.
  • Perform additional tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise 2 or more employees (Teacher’s Aide and Volunteers as assigned).
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Missouri State Teaching Certificate.
Physical Demands
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to feel, grasp, push, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crawl, perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement, and move up or down from/to sitting position.
Mental Demands
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposed to loud noise levels. Regularly exposed to varying inclement outdoor weather conditions while on recess duty.
  • This individual may be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids.
