The Dr. Bonnie G. Metcalf School of Education is accepting applications for a pool of adjunct faculty for its early childhood programs and courses.
QualificationsMinimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Studies, Child Development, or a related field; at least 3 years of experience working with young children (birth to age
8) in diverse early childhood settings; experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting early childhood educators; familiarity with the California Preschool Learning Foundations and the California Early Learning and Development System; and a strong understanding of culturally responsive practices and inclusive environments in early childhood education. A current California Child Development Permit (Site Supervisor level or higher) or an appropriate California teaching credential (such as PK/TK or Early Childhood Special Education) is preferred.
Additional qualifications include exceptional communication and collaboration skills; proficiency in office and educational software applications; demonstrated success teaching young children (birth to age
8) from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; evidence of effective professional practices in early learning, including developmentally appropriate pedagogy, reflective practice, and service to the field; experience supervising or mentoring early childhood educators or pre-service teachers; and a strong foundation in early childhood development, including cognitive, social-emotional, and physical domains. Candidates should also demonstrate knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice ( DAP ), the zone of proximal development ( ZPD ), key early learning theories (such as those of Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, and Bronfenbrenner), play-based learning, attachment theory, and culturally responsive care and education as well as early childhood assessment.
