Wayside Schools is an open-enrollment, tuition-free Pre-K3-12th grade public charter school network that provides over 2,200 scholars across its four South Austin campuses with a rigorous International Baccalaureate education. Job DescriptionResponsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service. Assists the students as needed, assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria, assists with recycling/compost, and assists with the flow of meal service.
Minimum/Required Qualifications- Able to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
- Physically able to perform duties assigned at sufficient speed.
- Functional skills in reading and writing English and Spanish.
- Knowledgeable about meal pattern requirements; understands federal, state, and local program regulations.
- Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures for food service.
- Mature ability to use judgment, be dependable and maintain a professional demeanor and ethics.
Manages students during meal service (behavior problems will be referred to the teacher or principal according to guidelines established by the individual school site).
Communicates with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills.
Circulate throughout the cafeteria or in areas where meals are served and/or eaten assisting students who need assistance.
Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria by wiping tables, serving lines, water fountain, hand wash station, milk cooler, etc., using appropriate cleaning products; sweeps and mops as needed.
Assists with class dismissal in an orderly manner at the scheduled time.
Encourage good table manners.
Participates in training sessions, meetings, and scheduled cleaning days as requested.
Performs other Child Nutrition Program duties as assigned, including training as back-up cashier. Travel to other school sites will be necessary as needed.

Physical Effort and Work EnvironmentServices are generally provided within a cafeteria and office environment. Movement throughout the cafeteria is necessary, assisting students with meal items. Regular attendance is required for this position.
Personal Work RelationshipsAbility is required to work with a diversity of individuals and utilize job related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: working with frequent interruptions; being attentive to detail; maintaining confidentiality and working as part of a team.
