Work Schedule: 6.75 hr/day with bussing to Lewis Cove Road

Job Responsibilities Personal Care- Assist students with feeding, toileting needs and personal hygiene as required;
- Administer medication and carry out medical procedures under the direction of the school principal following policy;
- Assist students in moving, lifting, positioning, and transportation activities, and accompany them to community programs;
- Supervise students to ensure a safe environment;
- Assist students in operating support equipment and dressing/undressing as required.
- Assist in promoting student’s emotional growth, well‑being and independence;
- Encourage the development of student dignity and self‑esteem;
- Facilitate positive interactions among students;
- Help motivate students and encourage participation;
- Assist in implementing behavior management plans as developed by the teacher or team.
- Assist students in following programs, strategies, exercises and materials identified by the teacher;
- Assist teachers in preparing material;
- Provide feedback to the supervising teacher on observations of students;
- Accompany students to and from community work placements and provide support within programs;
- Other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Currently enrolled or completion of teacher assistant training through a recognised diploma or certificate programme, or an equivalent training programme (including a personal care course);
- A school practicum organised by the institution of the diploma programme, or equivalent experience in personal care settings;
- Ability to perform all duties, including personal and physical care of students;
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain prior to employment;
- Current Non‑violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification (desirable);
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ets>
- Experience and demonstrated ability in managing children or youth with exceptional needs.
