Radiation Effects Engineer San Francisco

Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, expanding humanity’s reach into the solar system. Our satellites provide dedicated, secure networks to highly sophisticated customers worldwide, including large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the U.S. military. With five satellites on orbit and many more set to launch, we are servicing a backlog of more than $1 billion in commercial contracts.

As a Radiation Effects Engineer you will analyze and test candidate electronics for our spacecraft. This position requires hands‑on experience validating parts for radiation environments specific to aerospace.

• Support the design of fault‑tolerant electrical systems for operation in a radiation environment
• Simulate and model the GTO and GEO radiation environments on PCBA designs
• Coordinate and run radiation testing campaigns to upscreen components
• Develop fault‑tolerant systems and operations into the spacecraft by working closely with the rest of the team
• Support other electrical design, bring‑up, and test activities
• Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly‑growing team

• Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent technical field
• Hands‑on hardware development experience in a fast‑paced environment
• Experience with electrical design
• Experience designing and testing for radiation effects
• Experience testing analog and digital circuits
• Experience with fault‑tolerant high reliability systems
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency

• Experience developing electrical designs in space or other high‑radiation environments
• Experience with the Geostationary radiation environment (TID, SEE, DDD)
• Experience running tests at radiation labs
• Experience with designing dosimeter circuits
• ECAD + MCAD experience (Altium, Solidworks)

Base pay: $120,000 – $165,000 USD
