About Verrus
Data centers should be valuable assets to their customers, the grid, and the local community so that we can give customers what they want, where they want it. Cities and utilities actively seek us to build in their region. Verrus is a developer of next‑generation, greenfield hyperscale data centers that flexibly leverage its onsite energy infrastructure (e.g., large‑scale battery storage) through proprietary technology.
This makes Verrus a flexible resource to the grid and enables grid services that facilitate interconnection, effective procurement of power, and balance of traditional and variable workloads such as AI/ML. Our turnkey data centers are deeply integrated with energy resources, providing significant advantages over traditional designs. Verrus is led by industry veterans with experience at the largest data‑center development companies and power & utilities, delivering gigawatts of capacity across four continents and billions of dollars of investment.
at Verrus
The optimisation team is at the heart of Verrus' technology‑forward approach to designing data centres. We build, test, and deploy models that operate our advanced infrastructure, achieving unparalleled efficiency and resilience. We work closely with teams across the organisation – product, software infrastructure, control systems, electrical and mechanical engineering – to realise these outcomes.
The roleWhile every engineer on the optimisation team relies on data, you will tackle our most critical data‑architecture problems: building the foundational systems that transform physical telemetry into actionable intelligence. The role will involve collaborating with partners to design data ingestion systems for thousands of physical assets (smart meters, thermal sensors, etc.), building pipelines that detect data anomalies (sensor drift, etc.) and feed our optimisation algorithms, and developing processes to evaluate model quality and enable safe deployment of new models.
- Collaborate with our partners to design data ingestion systems that support thousands of physical assets and meet customer needs.
- Build data pipelines that identify data anomalies (sensor drift, etc.) and feed our optimisation algorithms.
- Develop processes to evaluate model quality and enable safe deployment of new models.
We require at least 5 years of experience as a full‑time data software engineer or an equivalent role with significant contributions to distributed, high‑volume data systems.
Our cultureOur engineering culture is built for productivity and sustainability, valuing a small, talented, and highly focused team that can achieve orders of magnitude more impact than a large, diffused organisation. Engineers here are lifelong learners, humble, and kind. We foster an environment where collaboration happens naturally and communicate deliberately through written proposals and design documents. These practices help keep meetings brief and enable you to concentrate on solving hard problems.
Yourfirst few months
We aim for you to start contributing immediately, regardless of prior data‑centre experience. We will first scope an aligned starter project, pair you with a peer for rapid onboarding, and provide ongoing support.
CompensationThe annual base salary range for this position in California is $140,000–$200,000. This figure is only one component of Verrus' comprehensive compensation package, which also includes discretionary bonus, equity, general health benefits and paid time off. Compensation is determined by multiple factors, including market location, and may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
