$11,437.00 – $14,315.00
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
Job Description and DutiesUnder the general direction of the Office Chief of Right of Way (RW) & Right of Way Engineering (RWE), the Senior Transportation Surveyor oversees a team of Professional Land Surveyors performing RW Engineering functions. The role includes managing resources, coordinating with stakeholders, representing the District RW Engineering Office in statewide meetings, and acting as a liaison with other units and agencies.
A valid California Land Surveyor’s license and a valid California driver’s license are required.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Surveyor exam. To apply for the exam, use the State examination list. Applicants must submit the required data and may be required to provide a Scored Qualifications (SOQ) and applicable transcripts or certificates.
Special Requirements- Appointment to Range D requires a valid California Professional Land Surveying License issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Incumbent must possess a valid California Professional Land Surveyor License or be a Registered Engineer qualified to practice Land Surveying in the State of California.
- Candidates with an education or Land Surveyor (LS) certificate must include a copy of the degree/transcripts and the LS certificate with the State application (STD 678).
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required; it must be typed, no longer than two pages, in 12‑point Arial font.
- A valid driver’s license is required when operating a State‑owned or leased vehicle.
The SOQ serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly. Submit it in the specified format and include:
- Experience supervising professional staff in right‑of‑way engineering projects, including planning and compliance.
- Approach to managing employee performance and development.
- Experience managing complex or politically sensitive situations with multiple stakeholders.
- Examples of collaboration with executive‑level staff or participation in strategic planning.
