Lead Water Operator

Gold Mountain Community Services District is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Water Operator to join our team. This is a full-time, benefited position responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the District’s water and wastewater systems
. Under the general direction of the General Manager (GM), the Lead Operator oversees daily field operations, maintenance activities, and staff, ensuring our essential services run smoothly for the community.

The Lead Operator plays a critical role in operating, maintaining, and repairing District water and wastewater facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. This position works largely independently, performs complex field duties, and provides day-to-day supervision of field staff. This role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to respond to emergencies as needed.

• Operate and monitor all water and wastewater treatment processes, pumps, motors, valves, generators, and related equipment.
• Perform daily inspections, sampling, testing, recordkeeping, and reporting.
• Locate, inspect, repair, and maintain distribution and collection system infrastructure, including mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, septic tanks, lift stations, and manholes.
• Conduct hydro-cleaning, disinfection, backflow prevention oversight, and emergency spill response.

• Provide daily supervision, training, and field direction to operators and laborers.
• Assist the GM in developing operational goals, policies, and maintenance programs.
• Prioritize work orders, coordinate projects, and interface with contractors and regulators.
• When GM is out of the area or otherwise unavailable, the Lead Operator will report directly to the Board of Directors.

• Respond to customer inquiries, service issues, outages, and complaints in a professional manner.
• Support conservation initiatives and coordinate notifications regarding scheduled outages or system issues.

• Ensure accurate logs, monitoring data, test results, and maintenance records.
• Support required system testing (e.g., Lead & Copper, BacT, chemical testing).
• Participate in inspections and regulatory compliance activities.

• California DHS D2 (or higher) Distribution Operator Certificate

• Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor and inclement conditions.
• Proficiency with computers, basic reporting, and data entry.
• Knowledge and experience with public water distribution and wastewater systems.
• Ability to read system maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate field staff.

• SWRCB Wastewater Treatment Grade I (or higher).
• DHS T2 Water Treatment Operator Certificate
• AA degree or higher in hydrology, water resources, engineering, geology, business, or related field.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience reviewing engineering plans and coordinating construction projects.
