We are looking for an experienced Resident Engineer to join our team in a full-time, on‑site role located in either Los Angeles, CA, or Sacramento, CA. The Resident Engineer will oversee complex and challenging transportation engineering projects, serving as the licensed professional engineer on‑site. This role involves directing work, providing instructions, and making decisions on both technical engineering and administrative issues for various transportation projects.
Job Responsibilities- Ensure construction work is carried out according to plans, specifications, and safety standards, while managing changes in the contract via change orders agreed upon by the contractor and the client.
- Take full responsibility for decisions, quality of work, and efficient use of contract time, equipment, and materials.
- Review and approve contract change orders, progress and final pay estimates, field reports, and related correspondence; ensure plans and estimates are accurate and complete.
- Prepare detailed reports and conduct engineering investigations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, standards, plans, and specifications.
- Assist the Construction Engineer with resolving construction contract claims.
- Make recommendations for contract acceptance based on project performance and quality.
- Ensure compliance with traffic control, environmental regulations, hazardous waste protocols, and stormwater pollution prevention standards.
- Assist in monitoring safety‑related activities throughout the construction process.
- Oversee Traffic Management planning and implementation.
- Ensure compliance with labor and civil rights regulations related to the project.
- Coordinate project resources, including equipment, vehicles, office space, construction staking requests, and overtime.
- Ensure that project records are accurately maintained according to the Construction Manual or Project Manuals.
- Serve as the main point of communication with staff, technical personnel from outside agencies, contractors, and the public, ensuring smooth project progress.
- Maintain frequent communication with City and County representatives, private contractors, and the traveling public.
- Effectively engage with contractor personnel, property owners, and internal team members to resolve project issues and facilitate smooth operations.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills essential for collaboration and successful project execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Registration as a California Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
- Approximately 10 years of experience in Construction Management, particularly on public works or transportation projects.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience managing major construction contracts.
- Contractor experience (e.g., Project Manager, Superintendent, Engineer) is highly desirable.
$180k-240k
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
