Job OverviewAPTIM has openings for an Environmental Technician to work in a team to perform solid waste composition assessments of client waste containers ranging in size from 3 cubic yards to 40 cubic yards. These assessments typically last 1‑2 days with team sizes varying from 2 to 5 members depending on the assessment. Work activities include sorting solid waste with hand tools to segregate waste items by type for the purpose of assessing various types of waste including plastics, paper, cardboard, glass, food waste, and regulated materials.
Assist with separating waste, weighing, inventorying items, and reporting data. The role requires the ability to bend and lift 30 pounds or less, willingness to work in Tyvek safety suits, wear required safety equipment, and be on your feet for up to 8 hours daily.
- Sort solid waste into material categories including plastics, paper, cardboard, food waste, regulated waste, etc.
- Use hand tools to sort waste and lift and move items weighing 30 pounds or less.
- Willingness to travel with the team to transfer stations, landfills, and client sites; travel may be required anywhere in the continental US, primarily the Midwest.
- Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to work well in a team, maintain a positive attitude, and willingness to travel.
- Experience in the Hazardous Waste/Solid Waste field.
- 40‑hour Hazwoper training.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $22 per hour, with compensation depending on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among APTIM employees.
