Job Description and DutiesThe Division of Engineering Services (DES), Program/Project Management and Office Engineer (PPM&OE), is recruiting to fill a Senior Transportation Engineer (Sr TE) (Specialist) position located in Sacramento. Under the general direction of the Office Chief, Office of Project Delivery & Structure Contract Management, the incumbent’s duties require detailed knowledge of project management, technical project development, engineering practices and processes, project and support cost estimating, delivery scheduling, team‑building, conflict resolution, and strong communication skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordination with District Project Managers, DES Functional Units, and Deputy Division Chiefs to identify and negotiate project workload and schedules.
- Monitoring and communicating the status of delivery.
- Facilitating resolution of project delay issues and developing recommendations for action.
- Identifying methods for enhancing communications between DES and Districts.
- Travel is required.
Position location:
1801 30th Street, FMP 1, Sacramento, CA 95816, California. The position may be eligible for telework at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Employees are expected to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headed location as needed. Business travel may be required and reimbursement is considered based on the candidate’s designated headquarters, primary residence, and applicable CalHR regulations or bargaining unit contract provisions.
All commute expenses to the headquarters are the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Refer to the Class Specification for the detailed Minimum Requirements. Key requirements include:
- Valid Professional Engineering License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required; must follow the specified instructions and format.
- Completion of the required examination/ employment application (STD 678) and other documentation as outlined in the application instructions.
- Additional documentation such as unofficial transcripts or equivalency reports if applicable.
