Multiple openings located in San Joaquin County. Hybrid telework available. Permanent, full time.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1976

E. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., Stockton, San Joaquin County.

Employees will work in a climate-controlled office and will perform field work in varied conditions. Some travel required. Telework may be accommodated based on agency policy. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed. Business travel may be required. All commute expenses to the headquartered location are the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of Safety Programs, the incumbent serves the Branch Chief, District Encroachment Permits Highway System (EPHS). Incumbent has charge of varied and difficult transportation engineering work in the field and office involving the supervision of engineers and others engaged in transportation development activities. Incumbent plans, assigns, and checks work, gives instructions and assistance, maintains discipline, makes decisions, and handles difficult technical and administrative problems in connection with directing engineers and others.

Provides technical oversight to consultants performing engineering work, makes original investigation in connection with the preparation of unusual or complicated designs, develops personnel requirements and monitors use of personnel in meeting engineering project and operations schedules. Presents information to the public on transportation engineering and permit matters, represents the Department of Transportation at meetings, and prepares correspondence and reports.

Minimum Requirements
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
  • Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with encroachment permits.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong working relationships in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and changing priorities and meet strict deadlines under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with internal and external partners and staff at various levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply logic and creativity in decision making processes and successful application of motivational and negotiating skills.
