Under the direction of a Supervising Bridge Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for research and development of structure specifications for the construction of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Bridge Engineer exam. New to state candidates must be on the state examination list to be eligible.

Minimum Qualifications- Valid registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Valid driver’s license required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. The SOQ must be typed, no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, using 12-point Arial font.
- SOQ questions:
- Describe your experience developing, modifying, interpreting, or reviewing structure-related contract specifications.
- Explain your experience applying structural construction practices, bridge engineering principles, or design requirements in a professional engineering setting.
- Provide examples demonstrating your experience leading or coordinating the work of engineers or technical staff.
- Describe situations in which you prepared a technical document or communicated complex technical information to internal or external partners.
- Foreign transcripts and degrees must be evaluated by a recognized equivalency evaluation agency.
