- Work under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Surveyor in the Right of Way (R/W) Engineering branch.
- Perform a wide variety of office survey tasks: researching records; performing complex survey calculations; preparing R/W and survey maps; preparing legal descriptions and deeds; providing information to the public; reducing and analyzing field data.
- Occasionally function as a member of a field crew and perform other survey‑related work as required.
- Act as the Mapfiles Lead worker, managing the District 11 intranet mapfiles, updating District 11 right‑of‑way maps, archiving projects, adding data to the parcel fabric in District 11 Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and providing information to the public.
- Be in “responsible charge” of one’s own work and may act as a lead person in responsible charge of the technical work of other rank and file employees.
Position located at 4050 Taylor Street, San Diego, CA. The incumbent works in an air‑conditioned office setting. Duties may require extended sitting, overtime, occasional outdoor work on uneven terrain and in various weather conditions, and overnight travel on short‑term assignments throughout the district or state.
Minimum Requirements- Employment classification: TRANSPORTATION SURVEYOR (CALTRANS) – Salary ranges: A $6,332.00–$7,922.00, B $7,428.00–$9,296.00, C $8,896.00–$11,131.00, D $9,712.00–$12,152.00.
- New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
- Must possess a valid California Land Surveyor’s license, or a valid California Civil Engineer’s license issued prior to 1982.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required for operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
- Documentation of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. Applicants must submit unofficial transcripts, diploma, or equivalent, and foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized agency.
