Responsibilities

In a very large urban district, under the general direction of the District 7 Deputy District Director for Program/Project Management (CEA

B), the incumbent serves as the Assistant Division Chief for Program/Project Management for Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and other complex district projects, and is responsible for overseeing the management and implementation of high-profile, complex multimodal improvements to the State Highway System (SHS), transit infrastructure and all aspects of corridor projects. The incumbent manages corridor activities and works to complement the activities of other Divisions to ensure projects and initiatives are carried out successfully and the Department’s program goals and objectives are met, while providing strategic and high-level direction to teams.

The incumbent serves as the District’s single focal point for issues pertaining to the PCH and other complex projects and represents the Department with high-level external partners and stakeholders. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil, electrical, or mechanical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil, electrical, or mechanical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • I – One year of transportation engineering experience as a Supervising level engineer in the California state service; or four years of transportation engineering experience as a Senior level engineer.
  • II – One year of managerial experience in the California state service equivalent to a Supervising Transportation Planner, or four years of supervisory or managerial experience equivalent to a Senior Transportation Planner, and two years of civil engineering work at the Associate engineer level or higher in the California state service.
  • III – Broad and extensive (more than five years) transportation engineering experience equivalent in responsibility to a Senior or higher level engineer in the California state service.
Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for telework at the discretion of the Department. Employees may need to report to their worksites with minimum notice if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquarters as needed and may be required to travel for business. Commute expenses to the headquarters are the responsibility of the candidate.
