Job Title: Road Safety Infrastructure Plan (RSIP) Coordinator

Department: Department of Transportation

Classification: Senior Transportation Planner

Salary: $8,678.00 – $10,783.00 per month (new to state candidates will be hired at the minimum classification rate or alternate range when applicable)

Responsibilities
  • Initiate, develop, and implement Caltrans’ RSIPs in accordance with the California Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Implementation Plan.
  • Serve as the Safety Programs’ single focal point for RSIPs and coordinate internal and external stakeholder interactions.
  • Ensure district traffic safety planning reflects current federal and state goals, policies, and regulations.
  • Guide division staff and subject‑matter experts on systemic safety planning matters.
  • Collaborate with other Caltrans divisions to support safety corridor initiatives, quick‑build guidance, and the integration of the Safe System approach into transportation planning processes.
  • Develop and oversee safety corridor study methodologies and provide uniform standards for regional partners and local roads.
  • Support the division and districts in implementing a Safe System approach across the State Highway System.
Qualifications
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required.
  • Relevant transportation planning experience, especially in safety infrastructure development.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Proven collaboration and partnership skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong critical‑thinking, innovation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize work, and follow established standards and processes to meet organizational goals.
  • Valid driver’s license required for operations of state owned or leased vehicles.
Minimum Requirements

Refer to the Class Specification for detailed minimum qualifications. The role requires a Senior Transportation Planner background.

Working Conditions

Location:

1120 N Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County. The position may offer telework options, subject to departmental policy. Occasional travel and requirement to report to the headquarters may be necessary.
