TRANSPORTATION SURVEYOR PARTY CHIEF (CALTRANS)

Senior Transportation Surveyor Party Chief (Caltrans) – District 3, Stockton, CA.

Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor, the incumbent will work as a first‑line supervisor planning, coordinating, administering, and executing the work of a survey crew conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys. The supervisor will also train subordinates in land survey duties, operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations, and note keeping.

All required supervisor duties will be performed. A valid California Land Surveyor’s License and a Class C driver’s license are required.

• California Class C or Class B driver’s license
• Valid California Land Surveyor’s License (Class A, B, or
  
  C)
• Experience in land surveying, including use of precision instruments, survey calculations, and drafting
• Knowledge of the California Coordinate System, Code of Safe Surveying Practices, and land title research
• Ability to perform complex field and office surveying work and prepare clear reports and correspondence

• Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of a survey crew
• Proficiency in photogrammetric mapping, topography, and boundary determination
• Strong communication and reporting skills
• Experience with the Land Surveyors’ Act, Subdivision Map Act, and related state legislation
