Key Responsibilities- Field and Office Support: Assist the Resident Engineer with roadway construction inspection services and office engineering tasks, ensuring compliance with project requirements and specifications.
- Client and Customer Focus: Understand and address client and customer needs to ensure a high level of satisfaction and successful project outcomes.
- Safety Compliance: Operate within client safety protocols at all times, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Documentation and Reporting: Complete all necessary documentation, including Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs), ensuring accurate records of all construction activities.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect for quality workmanship and perform field measurements of construction materials and products to ensure they meet project specifications.
- Contract Management: Monitor the contractor's quality control and traffic control operations while ensuring compliance with environmental contract requirements.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and report any changes, errors, or adjustments to the contract documents, providing recommendations to the Resident Engineer for corrective action.
- Education: Graduation from a four‑year civil engineering curriculum. OR, a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Civil Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in roadway construction inspection for highways or major public works projects. Experience working with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards, specifications, and the Construction Manual, as well as Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) procedures is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Possession of a valid Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certificate is required.
- Driver’s License and Mobility: Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. The role requires travel to job sites, occasionally for extended periods.
$60/hr – $100/hr
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
