Job Description and Duties

Structure Construction (SC) is recruiting for Transportation Engineers (Civil). Project site:
Merced, Stanislaus, Mariposa Counties. Under a Senior Bridge Engineer, the TE (Civil) does professional engineering work in field and office. Works on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. As field engineer ensures contractors build structures in compliance with contract documents. May act as Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer/Resident Engineer on construction projects.

Mandatory TE (Civil) Professional Development Rotation Program applies to permanent full‑time TE (Civil) hired after January 1, 2017. Temporary relocation >50 miles may be required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Eligibility determined by Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam.
  • Must be on state examination list or be newly eligible to state civil services.
  • Must meet Minimum Qualifications listed in Classification Specification.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license; provide CDL info.
  • For Range D, valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) required.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) and resume required. Recent/university graduates must provide unofficial transcript. SOQ must be no more than 2 pages, single‑spaced, 12‑pt font, numbered, and address the items listed:

  • Describe your civil engineering coursework and/or work experience focus.
  • Describe proficiency with engineering technology applications.
  • Provide examples of team work and resolving issues.
  • Describe knowledge of Structures Construction and why you fit.
Working Conditions

Location:

530 W 16th Street, Merced, Merced County. The rotation program is 24‑33 months with core assignments in Design and Construction units and elective assignment. Rotations may involve long‑term travel. Employee may be loaned to other functions for staffing needs.
