Under the direction of the Branch Chief of Central Systems & Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) Support, a Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Transportation Engineer (Electrical), serves as the System Application Engineer in the Central Systems & TMC Support Branch.
The incumbent designs system architecture, develops specifications for new technologies, performs systems engineering, manages the scope and deliverables for outsourced technology development and acquisition, supports software development, and provides technical and sustaining engineering for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) used to operate the Department's traffic management and control systems.
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in‑person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Electrical) exam.
Special Requirements- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.
- Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required.
The SOQ serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered and in disqualification from the interview. Resumes and cover letters will not take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12‑point Arial font.
